14 goals in 3 matches!

5 Sep 2021

Last Sunday was the first time this season that all three of our Open Age teams were in action on the same day and it produced some excellent performances.
For our Development Team it was a question of who should get the Match Ball as there were hatricks from both Maisy and Poppie in a 9-1 win over Altrincham FC Women Development, Madi and Amelia getting the other goals. Coach Martin Randles, was full of praise for the team for putting training ground practice into a matchday setting.
Rosie Emerson’s Reserves didn’t match Develoment’s goal tally but still put in an impressive performance to defeat Bradford City AFC Development 3-1 at Stockport Sports Village. Georgia Johnson’s 15th minute arrow from the edge of the box was negated by a penalty for the visitors a few minutes later, but County finished the half strongly with a brilliant free kick from Ellie Richardson and a great goal from Elle Turner, making it 3-1 at half time. No further score in the second half as County successfully defended their lead to claim all three points.
The First Team enjoyed their first experience of away travel on the Beeline VIP coach, as used by the men’s First Team. Big Thank You to Adam from Beeline for looking after us so well on the long trip up to Chester-le-Street.
The match started well with Libby Dixon scoring the opening goal, but Chester-le-Street equalized before the break. Maria Figueiredo put us back in front after half time and then County had a goal disallowed which would have put us 1-3 up. County were the stronger team but couldn’t add to their lead and in the 85th minute Chester-le-Street equalized against the run of play. FT 2-2. Luck isn’t favouring the First Team at the moment, but a point on the road must be valued, even in disappointing circumstances.
All in all a good weekend with some very promising performances. First and Reserves travel north again next week for League Cup and League games respectively, lets see if we can better that 14 goal tally…..!
