Pre-season has been going for several weeks now and First Team Manager, Steve O’Hara brings us up to date on the team’s progress.
“Pre-season is in full swing now! We have played four teams from divisions above us in the league. The thinking being these will work as fitness sessions, as these teams would, in all probability, have more possession, so we would have to work hard. With each game we improved and got closer to matching those teams.
Our last game against Runcorn Linnets we put all that hard work into practice, and it was our turn to dominate possession. We started the game really well, and you could see straight away that the previous outings had benefited us by the speed with which we were moving the ball.
There were some new faces in the team for that game:-
Ella Ritchie, a striker. Her previous clubs include Loughborough and Derby County, she scored twice against Runcorn.
Harriot Houghton, an attacking midfielder. She played for Hull City in the FAWNL Premier Division North last season and also got on the score sheet.
Running out 7-2 winners highlighted our superiority, but what was more pleasing was the nature of the goals. Controlled build up play, being patient until the right moment, making good decisions then executing a clinical finish.
We play our final pre-season game against Salford City on Sunday 14th August before starting our league campaign against Durham Cestria at home on August 21st.”
