Steve O’Hara took over as County Ladies Manager in January, and has quickly settled into the role, his first appointment in women’s football. He takes a keen interest in the fortunes of all our Teams, Junior and Senior, and was out supporting our Under 12s for their League Cup Final win last weekend.
Here are his thoughts on the last five months in charge.
“So as the season draws to a close it’s time to look back at my first few months as Stockport County Ladies manager.
My task this season was to stay in the league and then start to build on that.
From the moment I got the job I have been made to feel part of the County family by players, committee and the fans of both the Ladies’ and the Men’s sides.
I didn’t change much at first as I wanted to assess what we had available to us, and we struggled in the first couple of games to get that win.
Then we changed our style of play, things started to click, and the players started to believe in themselves.
We went in a bit of a run in both League and Cup, including an incredible night at Edgeley Park, beating Leeds 4-2, in front of a record crowd for the Ladies’ team. I am immensely grateful to the County fans for making that night so special.
We have already started putting plans in place for next season, and with the relationship between the Men’s team and us getting closer, the future really looks bright. I have a great team of Coaches working with me and I’m excited for the next few years wearing the county badge!
